Chasselas in Brussels

On 11 October 2021, the winners of the Mondial du Chasselas 2021 were presented to Belgian professionals in the restaurant "Aux Armes de Bruxelles".

We are pleased to share with you an extract from the article written by Johan De Groef following this tasting and his cheerful comments about the 2003 vintage of our mythical Dézaley-Marsens Grand Cru "De la Tour" - Vase No 4.

As far as the vintage is concerned, the weather conditions of 2003 had beaten all records of heat leading to a summer of drought. We had to wait until August 27th for a providential rainfall to come and water our hillsides. The early harvest produced a round, generous and well-structured vintage that already had good ageing potential.

"This wine was for me the summit of the Chasselas tasting. Normal, because we are talking about a mountainous country! The wine itself is a marriage - a marriage of opposites. Young and old.  Freshness and depth, accessibility and complexity, secondary and tertiary aromas. But all in balance, in harmony. In short, a generous wine with astonishing aromas and a mineral structure, which offers many possibilities for gastronomic pairings.

And why not with a great Armes classic, waterzooi? Succulent fresh fish (cod, sole, etc.), grey shrimps from our North Sea, swimming in the juice, green vegetables, baby carrots, leeks and celery, none of this puts off our Chasselas: on the contrary, it shows all its versatility. It's a great Belgian-Swiss pairing.
